Description

This study examined the effect of rehabilitation for the dog, motor dysfunction due to quadriparesis and reduction of the range of motion of the carpal joints by the aftereffect of the cervical disc herniation. This is a case of an 11-year-old castrated male Yorkshire Terrier. The carpal joint of the left foreleg was not stretched and the knuckling was remarkable. Therefore, we focused on improving the range of motion of the left carpus. In addition, for the purpose of stable walking, we aimed at strengthening the muscle strength of the hindlimbs and improving the sense of balance. Rehabilitation was conducted once a week, 41 times in total. As a result, the excursion of the foreleg spread out by stretch and harness fixation, and I accompanied it, and improvement was seen by the neurologic inspection. Underwater treadmill and bending and stretching exercises restore the strength of the hindlimbs. Maintaining the standing upright and raising the three legs improved the sence of balance. The case was able to walk more steadily than before. In this case, it was thought that enhancing the effect was also possible by achieving communication of close intention by performing rehabilitation especially with the owner.
