Description

Individuals with discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) have a high risk of developing skin cancer as chronic scarring and inflammation, ultraviolet radiation, and/or immunosuppressive medications can be triggers for skin cancer. However, the exact mechanisms underlying this association are unknown. Here, we report a case of DLE with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and verrucous carcinoma (VC). Immunohistochemistry was performed. The possible pathogenesis of SCC and VC arising from DLE will be discussed.[Skin Cancer (Japan) 2020 ; 35 : 12-15]
