Description

Utilization of biomass, such as food waste, is one of the important challenges facing those attempting to realize low-carbon, sound material-cycle societies. One of the reasons for this is that biomass, especially municipal solid waste biomass such as waste cooking oil, is not often used and is usually discharged in small amounts from a variety of sources, which makes it difficult to collect and carry. Due to this situation, a basic policy for reduction of food wastes and an acceleration of efforts to better recycle food wastes has been indicated through a reconsideration of The Food Waste Recycling Law. <br> With this as the background, this paper introduces recent progressive initiatives concerning the current state of a biodiesel production project that uses waste cooking oil and recent technological development trends such as second-generation biodiesel production technology.
