Description

This paper aims to explicate the character of ethnomethodology of conversation analysis (EMCA) in the health and medical sociology. In sociological studies, it is necessary to consider ordinary conceptual relationships in everyday life. EMCA is the methodology to clarify the usage of concepts in practices, focusing on how the case is intelligible as such in the first place. These studies have been carried out while incorporating the questions of the participants in practices. In this paper, we explicate the policy of EMCA studies, which are hybrid studies with research fields, by exemplifying two projects: “Studies of the collaborative work in an acute care hospital” and “Conceptual analysis on genetic knowledge and illness narratives.”
