<p>The prechamber combustion characteristics were studied using a constant volume combustion chamber to improve the efficiency of cogeneration natural gas engines. The torch flames generated by a prechamber were used to investigate the effect that a prechamber has on the main combustion. In our previous study, we observed the correlation between the torch flame and the main flame (which is a so-called “prechamber combustion”) as well as the knocking phenomena for various prechamber configurations using a rapid compression and expansion machine (RCEM). In this study, we have investigated the effect of prechamber combustion on main chamber combustion characteristics using a constant volume combustion chamber, especially to study the ignitability of the main chamber.</p>
