- Research on the Heat Transfer Characteristics of the Three-Dimensional Backward-facing Step Flow Using Liquid Crystal Sheet Based on SVR Method

<p>Distributions of the local heat transfer coefficients on the bottom wall of a backward-facing step flow were measured by making use of a thermo-sensitive liquid crystal sheets that showed the different color distributions for various temperature values. SVR (Support Vector Regression) method was adopted to build the relationship between RGB values and temperature distribution through the calibration experiment. Verification experiment carried out in a rectangular duct has validated the correctness and accuracy of this method. More attention was paid to the maximum and average Nusselt number both near the center and the side of the bottom wall. The three-dimensional feature becomes weak with the increase of Reynolds number in low Reynolds number range (Re=400-1000) and the ratio of maximum Nusselt number to the average Nusselt number of the whole measuring area starts to keep constant after Re=2000. The existence of reattachment points plays an important role in enhancing the heat transfer near the center line of duct. However, in addition to flow reattachment, factors leading to heat transfer enhancement near the side wall can be more complicated.</p>
