Abstract
In order to realize smooth communication between people with or without difficulty in hearing, this paper proposes an information support system using crowdsourcing, a mechanism in which multiple people cooperate. In particular, we develop a crowdsourcing-based real-time captioning system that converts sign language lectures into text information. Although deaf and hard-of-hearing people are generally considered as the ones who receive support from others, our system actively helps them become the ones who offer support to others. Through practical evaluation experiments for captioning two sign language lectures, we have verified the interpretation quality, the time required for the interpretation, the system's usability and usefulness, and thus have confirmed the practicality of the system.
