Description

In the present study, the velocity and temperature fields around a permeable porous flat plate placed vertically on a heated surface were experimentally investigated. The flat plates were made by combining two kinds of porous metal with different permeability and porosity. The velocity fields in a streamwise wall-normal plane were obtained with the aid of a particle image velocimetry (PIV). The flow velocity behind the porous plate decreased to about 20% of the main flow, and the size of the recirculation region tended to decrease with increasing the mean permeability. When the permeability of the lower part of the flat plate was high, the temperature gradient increased near the heated surface just behind the flat plate. In the downstream region, the increase in the temperature gradient near the heated surface was observed in the case of low mean permeability. Therefore, it was suggested that the porous plate combining with high permeability upper part and low permeability lower part was effective to a windbreak wall with heat removal effect.
