Abstract

The Ota River delta has been considered as a typical form of ‘delta’. However, from this analayses we have concluded that it is in fact most of the plain was reclaimed, and that the uppermost Holocene deposit which forms the plain as well as slight elevations were formed under the influence of sand discharged by Tatara ironmaking. We used the following as means of analayses: a topographic classification map, historical documents and analyses of sediment from the downstream plain with a) grain size composition, b) clastic composition, c) slag grains and d) 14C dating.
