Description
There is a problem that elementary school children can hesitate about using toilets at school. We consider it critical that school toilets fulfill their original role as a place for excretion and as a comfortable place for elementary school children. The purpose of our study was to evaluate health guidance aimed at facilitating the understanding of bowel habits and the role of toilets. We provided health guidance to third and fourth year elementary school students. The purpose of the health guidance was for children to recognize that bowel movements and toileting were important for their own health and that of those around them. Children were surveyed through a questionnaire in order to evaluate the health guidance. Of the children who answered that they thought that school toilets “are important,” the proportion of those who answered “strongly agree” increased from 65.4% before guidance to 86.4% after guidance. The results indicated that this health guidance was successful to a certain extent.
