<p>In recent years, with the globalization of markets and technological improvements in emerging countries, it is no longer possible for the manufacturing industry in industrialized countries to maintain/regain its competitive advantage only with technology-oriented strategies. For the reacquisition of the competitive advantage of the manufacturing industry and its sustainable development, innovation based on the value of the recipient is required. As a means of practical strategy for innovation, design thinking is attracting attention as one of means of practical strategy. In design thinking, it is important for practitioners to form and sustain empathy. On the other hand, the essential meaning and logical structure of empathy in design are not clearly described, and it prevents empathy that benefits design from being widely formed in society. Based on aforementioned backgrounds, this paper constructs an empathy formation model in design which contributes to innovation design based on the survey and analysis of current research on empathy in design. Based on proposal model, this paper discuss a practical empathy formation support method for innovation design.</p>
