- Micro-CT Image-based Analysis of Porous Urethane

<p>The micro-CT image-based finite element method has been applied to variety of engineering heterogeneous materials. In this study, porous urethane with very low volume fraction is studied with the help of a multiscale theory. In the binarization process for sliced micro-CT images, 8 probable models have been generated mainly by the combination of dilation/erosion technique. Then, the homogenized macroscopic elastic properties were calculated by the mathematical homogenization theory. Since the volume fraction is very low, a boundary layer with low Young’s modulus was appended to the microstructure-model in order to apply periodic boundary conditions. The possible range of the homogenized elastic constants were predicted, which showed orthotropy. Since this study is limited to linear elastic analysis, the homogenized elastic constants were only 0.1 % of those of constituent material. In the next stage, it is expected to model the compacted micro-architecture under large strain.</p>
