Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify the process of modern settlement space formation from the perspective of land ownership in country town. I selected Kamidaki as a case study and analyzed the changes in spatial layout in the modern era, focusing on four elements: residential areas, public facilities, stores, and factories. For each of them, I analyzed the impact of land ownership on changes in settlement space. As a result, I revealed that the provision of land for rent by landowners had a significant impact on the location of new functions and the expansion of village space. While land allocations of pre-modern origin persisted along the old road, new facilities and industries were located behind the road.
