Abstract

Phosphorus was eluted from sewage sludge molten slag and molten fly ash in a shaker operating at 130 rpm at the constant temperature of 60℃ and with 5% sulfuric-acid acidity. The eluate was adjusted to pH2–12, using sodium hydroxide to form a precipitate. As a result, the highest phosphorus recovery rate from the molten slag eluate occurred at pH7 and 8, and the highest phosphorus recovery rate from the molten fly ash eluate occurred at pH8. To confirm the behaviours of the metals and phosphorus in the precipitate, it was simulated the reaction between them in the eluent. The simulation showed that the main precipitate was aluminium phosphate, which was produced at pH5–12 for the molten slag and at pH4–12 for the molten fly ash.
