Description

In this study, the sensitivity of Mie theory to changes in the size parameter and refractive indices was conducted to reveal what scattering theory should be applied for rain and sea spray. Particles with diameter less than 6 mm can be described as Rayleigh scattering. In the range of diameter more than 6 mm with wavelength is 2 mm, Mie scattering should be applied. From this analysis, assuming a single particle of rain or sea spray were radiated by three types of wavelength, the scattering should be described as Rayleigh scattering, since the diameter scale of rain is approximately 5 to 8 mm and sea spray is up to 1 mm. Noted that the Mie theory can describe both scattering, because Rayleigh scattering is based on Mie theory when size parameter is less than one. Since this sensitivity analysis is for a single particle, further investigations will be needed to represent the scatteing by multiple particles.
