The effects of hexavalent chromium at a sublethal concentration of 48 ppm (0.8 of LC_<50> for 96 hr) on the gill architecture of a freshwater perch, Colisa fasciatus were investigated for 96 hr. Chromium intoxication results into histopathological abnormalities in the gills which is evident by hyperplasia and hypertrophy of the respiratory epithelium, fusion of the lamellae, hypertrophy of the mucous cells, and necrosis of epithelial cells.
