Abstract

We asked 17 freshmen to recollect trouble and "cyber-bullying" via the Internet and cell phone that they had actually experienced or heard about from their classmates during junior high and high school days. As a result of our analysis, the victim and the bully often belonged to the same class or club activity, and they were close friends of each others in some cases. Therefore, it was suggested that the intervention of a teacher and/or a guardian is effective to solve the problem. Furthermore, other than unpleasant "email messages" and the "length of unpleasant email messages", it was found that being disallowed to enter the web site where other friends communicate with one another and being late in reply to one's email may also cause psychological distress.
