Description

It is a well-known fact that Bushido of Silla is a brave and faithful sprit who is not afraid to die for the sake of country, and it has been reported up to now by being handed down in the Samguk sagi, Samguk yusa, Dongguku tonggam, Pahanjip, and Jibong yusekl. President Park Chung-hee said domestically and abroad that Admiral Yi Sun-sin and Saint Seosan were the reincarnation of samurai in Silla and that the Hwarang appeared suddenly from among the people. However it is impossible that the people inherited the Bushido. There are some questions as to the logic of President Park. From the viewpoint of Buddhism in the Korean Peninsula as a way to save the country, this paper tries to validate the “Seosan Hwarang logic” of President Park by examining in detail how Silla Bushido was inherited in the Goryeo Buddhist culture and how Silla Bushido survived until the war of Bunroku and Keityo in the Joseon Dynasty to maintain a policy of oppression Buddhism to protect Confucianism.
