Abstract

Changes in relative illuminance and height growth-relative illuminance relationship for Abies and Tsuga saplings after selective cutting in an Abies and Tsuga natural forest were studied at Kirishima, southeast Japan. The results obtained were as follows. (1) Relative illuminance decreased from 21.4% to 14.3% during a 7-years period afler selective culting. (2) Height growth of Tsuga saplings increased with relative illuminance, whereas that of Abies was not. (3) Height growth of Abies saplings in the selective cutting forest were larger than that in the closed forest. From these results, it is suggested that the maintenance and improveinent of light condition within a forest by artifical silvicultural regimes are necessary to grow regenerated trees in an Abies and Tsuga natural forest.

霧島山系のモミ・ツガ天然林を対象として択伐作業後における相対照度の変化, および相対照度とモミ・ツガ椎樹の成戌との関係について検討した. その結果, 以下のことが明らかになった. (1)択伐後7年の間に相対照度は21.4%から14.3%へと低下した. (2)相対照度が高いほど, ツガ稚樹の伸長成長量は大きかったが, モミ稚樹ではこのような傾向は認められなかった. (3)閉鎖林内におけるモミ椎樹の慎重成長量は択伐林内におけるそれよりも小さかった. 以上の結果より, モミ・ツガ天然林において, モミ・ツガの後継樹を育成していくためには, 積極的な人為の導入によって林内光環境の維持・改善を図る必要があると考えられた.
