Abstract

A hopeful way of naturalizing qualia is to reduce them into the representational content of experience. This is called the intentionalization of qualia or representationalism. In this paper I defend externalistic representationalism by referring to the transparency of experience. So, internalistic representationalism and anti-representationalism are criticized on the basis of the transparency of experience. Qualia are neither intrinsic quality of experience nor intrinsic quality of objects represented by experience, but are essentially relational quality consisting in representational relations themselves.
