Abstract

This study suggests ideas to improve the quality of psychological rehabilitation or Dohsa-hou camps, primarily by reviewing the current year’s psychological records regarding these camps, which have been conducted as part of Osaka University’s extramural courses since the FY2007. A post-Dohsa-hou camp evaluation showed that both trainers and parents/guardians appreciated the good quality of the camp’s training and instruction contents. Furthermore, from the questionnaires presented to the trainees and parents/guardians about changes in their daily lives after participation in the camps, it was reported that there were improvements in seven areas of the twenty-two items, namely, “Meals”, “Clothing”, “Sleep patterns”, “Movements”, “Bathing”, “Daily posture”, and “Others.” Thus, it was assumed that a certain result had been achieved from the trainer training and trainee training. However, an evaluation of the facilities generated low results from among both the trainers and parents/guardians, and it was inferred that the primary factor the evaluation was the difficult physical conditions, owing to a lack of barrier-free access and air-conditioning. Therefore, the future tasks involve urgently finding solutions to these problems, with the reasoning that, as trainees grow older, these kinds of problems will become more serious.
