Description

The purpose of this study is to identify what kinds of circumstance or motivation influence the progression or stagnation of social contributions by religious people. To determine this, the study examines the case of disaster risk reduction (DRR) activities as a social contribution activity done specifically by evangelical Christians in Japan. The action-research was conducted at protestant churches in Osaka. To analyze the data, the study utilized the perspective of "independence"(Takase2015) and "social contribution activity elements" (Inaba2009), along with the concept of Protestants’"ethos"(Murata2017). The DDR was shown to have resources largely independent from the church itself. Having the ethos of a "calling" can influence the progress of social contribution activities by evangelical Christians.
