2009 年，米国南西部先住民ズニのズニ博物館・遺産センターは，将来的な標本資料の協働的管理の提案を目的として，国立民族学博物館が所蔵するズニ関連標本資料の熟覧調査を行った。本稿は，このズニ博物館長が民博で実施した，ズニ関連資料31 点の熟覧作業の過程と熟覧結果の報告を行うことを目的とする。その際，まず標本資料収集や展示や博物館標本資料の先住民コミュニティへの返還の歴史に注目しながら，米国内の民族学系博物館と先住民との関係について概略を記す。次に，米国南西部先住民ズニが運営するトライブ博物館の機能やコミュニティにおける役割，そして標本資料の返還の代替案としてズニ博物館が実施計画中の，外部の博物館との新たな関係性の構築に向けた取り組みを紹介する。まとめとして，先住民による博物館資料へのアプローチについて，博物館の公共性の再考をうながす協働という関係性のあり方に注目しながら考察する。

In 2009, the director of the A:shiwi A:wan Museum and Heritage Center(Zuni Museum) visited the Japan National Museum of Ethnology (Minpaku),and undertook a collection review for the purpose of seeking further possibilitiesfor collaborative management between Minpaku and the Zuni Museumconcerning 31 items from the Zuni community. The purpose of this paperis to report on this project and the result of the collection review. Firstly,the relationships between Native Americans and ethnological museums arereviewed, focusing on the collection, display, and repatriation of items to theindigenous source community. Next, introducing the function of the “TribalMuseum” owned by the Native Americans, and its social roles in the community,I illustrate the significance of an alternative way of repatriation as well asof re-constructing the relationships between the source community and ethnologicalmuseums. In conclusion, this paper will discuss the public nature ofthe museum in the light of collaborative relationships.
