Abstract

type:Article

Interregional Migration of young people at three time points were investigated: in high school, at university entrance, and at employment. Results of Study 1 indicated thatespecially 18- and 22-year-olds often movedbetween regions. Young people moving in exceeded those moving-out at both ages onlyin the Kanto region. Study 2 indicated thatmore than 50% of university students hoped toget a job in their hometown. Many students in Hokuriku and Kansai regions wanted to leave their hometown when entering a university and return when they start working. It is considered necessary to increase the number of young people that do not leave their hometown when entering a university or when getting a job, as well as increase the number of those that leave their hometown when entering a university and return to their hometown for employment.
