本研究では、日常的な場面を描いた写真の内容を想起させる場合に、その写真について絵を描くと、想起が促進されるのかどうか検討した。205名が参加した2つの実験において、参加者は、まず1枚の写真をみせられた。その後、実験群の参加者はその写真の絵を描き、統制群の参加者はその写真についての文章を書いた。引き続いて記憶テストを行った結果、自由再生、プローブ再生テストとも実験群のほうが優れていた。この研究の意義について犯罪捜査との関係で議論した。

The aim of the present study was to examine whether the recollection of photographs depicting everyday events could be facilitated by drawing pictures of the photographs. In two experiments,205 participants were presented with one photograph. Subsequently, participants in the experimental group drew pictures of the photograph, while participants in the control group wrote down sentences explaining the photograph. The results of following memory tests showed that performances of free recall and probed recall were better in the experimental group. The significance of the present study was discussed with reference to criminal investigations.
