Effects of university rank and academic records on the time of initiating job hunting, the number of job applications and the results of the job hunt were investigated. A questionnaire survey was conducted with students in humanities departments that had completed job hunting (n = 778). Results indicated the following: students in high-ranking universities, and those with good academic records had started job hunting early, applied to many enterprises and got informal appointments. Unexpectedly, a relatively small number of students in high-ranking national universities got informal appointments from enterprises of their first choice. Nevertheless, they often got appointment from large enterprises and as a result, their satisfaction with job hunting was identical to that of other university students. These findings are discussed from the perspective of career support.
