Abstract

As a control method of the instability phenomena, a nozzle injection system of a passive control method has been proposed. In this system, a part of the flow at the compressor outlet is re-circulated to the injection nozzle installed of the suction pipe through the bypass pipe and injected to the impeller inlet. In the present study, experimental measurements for turbocharger were carried out in order to investigate the mechanism of controlling the rotating stall and the surge in the centrifugal compressor by using the nozzle injection system. The present experimental results suggested that the nozzle injection extends the stable operating range of entire compressor system to the low flow rate region by controlling the mild surge. Moreover, the nozzle injection suppresses the growth of rotating stall by increasing the flow rate in the diffuser.
