Description

The author analyzed the relationship of the inclination rate of the hillside to the inclination rate of standing hardwood trees. The area analyzed was a natural hardwood forest in Miyazaki's Experimental Forest attached to Agricultural Department of Kyushu University. The purpose of this analysis was to set the provisional standard limit of the inclination rate of the hillside to the production of high quality structural hardwood timber. This report is for the presentation of the results of this analysis. The contents of this report are summarized as follows: (1) The relationship of the inclination rate of the hillside (x°) to the inclination rate of standing hardwood trees (y°) are presented by the following regression equation. y=4.0+0.4x (r=0.75) (2) It is termed satisfactory that the provisional standard limit of the inclination rate of the standing hardwood trees to production of high quality structural hardwood timber be 15°. (3) It is termed satisfactory that the provisional standard limit of the inclination rate of the hillside to forest organization for the above production be 30°.
