Abstract

The issues on preservation of archaeologigal sites are frequently discussed with mass excavation of the sites following expansion of urbanized areas in recent years. However, the great deal of information on these archaeological sites is not enough arranged and used for analysis and planning. This study aims to construct the geographical information system(GIS) for integrating geographical and archaeological information and methodology for using the information to understand the historical context of a historical region. As a case study of the analysis on the area of Mikumo, Ihara, Hirabaru ruins which are located in the south part of Itoshima Region, we could identify the characteristic points of the ruins, categorize the ruins based on the spatial analysis application of this system. Through the case study, this system enables us to identify the ancient social territories by the analysis on the visual relation between each of sites.
