Description
In recent years, with the burgeoning of China-Japan economic cooperation, there has been a rapid rise in the number of business Japanese language education courses offered at Universities throughout China. However, there is still insufficient research on professional business based Japanese education and there are still many unclear areas for business Japanese education in Chinese universities. This study focuses on the education structure of business Japanese courses in Chinese Universities through a survey conducted on the actual teaching situation versus the needs of the students at eight Universities in China. The survery provides a general understanding of the current situation regarding business Japanese education and those findings are summarized as per the points below. Firstly, there are some differences between the teaching objectives versus the teaching contents. For example, one of the particular teaching objectives is to enabie students to communicate in real business environments (based on venue, people & circumstances at the time) using proper business Japanese. However, in the actual teaching, the content mainly focused on writing business letters and Japanese business rituals. Relatively speaking, there is little focus on real business environment. Secondly, there is a gap between the actual teaching contents versus the needs of students. Through the survey, it was found that most students want to learn business Japanese to improve their Japanese communication ability in real business environments; however, the teaching content provides very little in this regard and therefore cannot meet the needs of students. Thirdly, the number of textbooks on business Japanese in China are few, and they also contain many significant systematic and practical defects. The quality of textbooks also affects the actual teaching content and the quality of teaching.
