Abstract

This study compares methods of Japanese Machizukuri and Korean Maeul-mandeulgi and clarifies realities and traits of Maeul-mandeulgi by Seoul's case study. The results are ;1) Japanese Machizukuri has changed into management form to maintain, and enhance the value of regions, while Korea's Maeul-mandeulgi exhibits active movements with government and municipalities making various institutions. 2) Time line shows execution of 1990s and administrative policies of late 2000s greatly influenced Maeul-mandeulgi, and northwestern Seoul is actively implementing movements, which are mainly 'community activities' and 'local activities.' 3) By using cluster analysis, cases of Seoul were classified into four groups, traits of which were elucidated.
