Description

Mirrors of Han age are very useful for study of chronology, for they have various designs and inscriptions. So, in this paper, I try to make a new model of chronology of early Han's mirrors with classifying each nine types of them in more detailed category and studying the relation of different type mirrors. For my new model we have 4 periods : in the first period there are mainly Pan-chi 蟠螭 design mirror which follows mirrors of the Warring states age, in the second Cao-ye 草葉 design mirrors with plants designs, in the third Inscription 異体字銘帯 mirror mainly with geometorical designs, and in the fourth Fang-ge-gui-ju-si-shen 方格規矩四神 mirror with realistical animal designs. Next I clarify that the meaning which inscriptions declare changes as assemblages of types and elements of design do so. In the above I grasp the change of designs and inscriptions totally and assign the early Han's mirrors in the cultural history of Han.
