The purpose of this study is to clarify the actual situations and problems in order to provide characteristic education in ordinary high schools. Therefore, the study was analyzed from the principal's point of view. The reason is because principals are thought to have the best overview of the school. High schools with special features were proposed to respond to the diversification and individualization of students. The survey was conducted at 10 High schools in S prefecture. An ordinary high school is characterized by having a certain level of academic ability, less entry into difficult universities, and a stable attitude toward life. The content revealed includes the actual situation of the students, educational goals, educational content, etc. The students at ordinary high schools were serious and calm, but lacked desire and competitiveness and were not good at taking a step forward. The school's goals are "achievement, " "career education, " "ability to live together, " and "students who can contribute to society." Teacher training was actively conducted for these purposes. In addition to conventional lecture-type lessons, active learning was enhanced in order to nurture "academic ability." "Career education" is conducted mainly during the overall study time. "Humanity" and "students who can contribute to society" are also cultivated in various situations. In this regard, schools are making various efforts to share educational goals and issues. As it is seen, the educational content is excellent. On the other hand, the problem remains that the student's actual situation is not always reflected. For this reason, many schools also struggle to provide characteristic education. As future tasks, it is necessary to restructure and link educational goals and educational activities.
