Description
Bilingual dictionaries are primarily concerned with supplying translational equivalents for words and phrases in the language described, making them insufficient for learners to function in that language. This note is an attempt to describe English words in a more explanatory and thus more helpful manner than do popular English-Japanese dictionaries. The goal is to give Japanese learners a sense of how native speakers of English understand their language, something they are not likely to get simply by learning accepted native-language equivalents.
