Abstract

Jurgen Moltmann advocates his cosmic christology from an ecological viewpoint, arguing that the ancient world was cosmocentric. But the cosmology of our time differs radically from that of the ancients. We are under the impression that the cosmos is boundless and vacant. Can the cosmic Christ, whom Moltmann discusses, give meaning to the cosmos? Moltmann pictures the cosmos as the body of Christ. But it is a challenge for christology to incorporate all the power of the cosmos into the rule by the Christ. The cosmic christology of Moltmann develops natural christology beyond the historical one. Moltmann adopts panentheism. And Moltmann criticizes the evolutionary christology of Teilhard de Chardin and of Karl Rahner. Moltmann insists on the cosmic eschatology developed by the cosmic Christ. In this case, he states that salvation is total. Therefore the existential search for the individual spirit is insufficient. But we can always meet Christ in our internal cosmos of spirit that is supported by hope.
