Abstract

Prosper Mérimée (1803-1870), French novelist famous for Carmen (1845), contributed four essays on Spanish Theatre to a liberal brochure Le Globe at the young age of 21 in 1824. This article is a first translation into Japanese of these four essays, Mérimée's first works publicly printed, which show us he had much interest in Spanish theme, above all, Spanish Theatre, already in his youth.
