Abstract

Nishiyama No.2 tumulus is a square tumulus in Joyo city, Kyoto. In 1961, Doshisha univercity research group excavated this tumulus and they found many burial goods from three burial facilities. The objective of this report is to record those burial goods in detail, mainly weapons and farming tools: 1 bronz arrowhead, 1 iron arrowhead, 1 iron sword as weapons, 1 rectangular iron axes, 3 bag-shaped iron axes, 3 knives, 1 straight-edged iron sickle, 1 iron plane as farming tools, 1 unknown iron tool as others. In those articles, bronz arrowhead should be specially mentioned. It belongs to "Gutter-shaped" type, excavated from Todaiji Yama tumulus, Nara and other tumuluses, but it is nationally rare. In addition, iron sword is bent in a U-shape, it is an example of what is called "Crooked Ironware". Consider those burial goods in a comprehensive way, Nishiyama tumulus appears to have been constructed and used from the initial to the middle of the early Kofun (tumulus) period.
