In this project, I explore how young female fans engage in the "participatory culture" of the Broadway musical, Wicked, through the Internet and how they collaborate with each other to construct alternative language for discovering and re-discovering their gendered selves. To explore my research question, I participate in fan communities on websites and blogs, and observe fans' conversations, exchanges of information, and their creative art works. These Internet fan communities are acting as a forum with alternative language to discuss gender issues and help women discover and re-discover who they really are.
