本稿の目的は, 観光と地域文化の関係について, 実際の地域と個人といったローカルな現実に関連させながら検討することである。ディスカバー・ジャパンなど, 主に都市部から発せられる観光のまなざしが顕著になった1970年代において, 観光は地方の地域文化の創出に際して, どのような作用を及ぼしたのか。この問いに答えるためには, 地域文化が創出される段階から, 担い手の意識や地域の社会文化的現実を詳細に検討することにより, 観光と地域文化の関係を具体的に抽出する作業が必要とされる。このことについて本稿では, 1974年に高野山で創出された「ろうそく祭り」を事例として取り上げ, 観光の枠組みといった大きな社会的背景を頭に留めつつも, 地域の社会・文化的現実に注目し, ……

The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationships between tourism and local culture focusing on the performers of the "Rousoku-Matsuri", known as the Candle Festival, and residents in consideration of the reality of society and culture in the community. In the 1970's, how did tourism have effects on local communities and culture? In order to answer this question, I examined how a specific local festival has been developing and improving in the context of tourism. In this paper, the analysis is based on ethnographic research into the case of the "Rousoku-Matsuri”, which was produced as an annual festival in 1974, in Wakayama Prefecture, one of the most sacred places in Japan. Importantly, I analyzed both of the creation of the festival and the current situation of the festival in terms of the development of tourism. ......
