[SUMMARY] This tale (uepeker) was told by late Ms. Nabe Shirasawa and recorded by Hiroshi Nakagawa on 29th Oct. 1989. This tale depicts the relation between beasts(=gods) and humans in the traditional world viw of Ainu. Beasts give their bodies to humans and then in return humans give them rice wine, rice dumplings, dried fish and inaw (shaved wood offering). The souls of the beasts return to the gods’ world with those presents and visit the humans’ world again in their bodies. This tale, however, tells the limit of the reincarnation is three times, which is very reasonable in considering they bear their childs, but such a limit is never told in the other tales.
