本稿の課題は，近代日本の綿織物産地の形成過程を解明することである。 谷口房蔵は，地域の有力な資産家の出資を集めて，郷土の泉南産地に，大規模な紡織兼営織布の吉見紡織株式会社を設立した。このことで，田尻町の財政を好転させ，インフラ整備に貢献した。吉見紡織は，昭和恐慌や労働争議などを迎えた際には，織布部門の縮小とハイドラフト化を推し進めて競争力を強化した。そして原料綿糸を産地機業家へ供給した。この結果，産地の競争力を高めて，成長へとつながっていったのである。 The goal of this paper is to analyze modern Japan’s cotton textile industry. Fusazo Taniguchi received investment from some wealthy local individuals and established Yoshimi-Boshoku Co.Ltd in the Sennan area. It improved the public finances of Tajiri town and its infrastructure rapidly developed. During The Showa Depression, Yoshimi-Boshoku had to face labor trouble, so they reduced their woven fabric department and promoted high draft fabric instead. The Company also supplied raw cotton thread to other textile manufactures. In this way, the Sennan area became the main production center of cotton textile in Japan.
