Abstract

Directional couplers with two-layered microstrip lines couple through a slot aperture on the common ground plane, so that tight coupling in compact size is easily realized, different from those with parallel coupled microstrip lines. This paper proposes to improve the frequency characteristics by arranging the input/output ports rotational-symmetrically, modifying a shape of the slot aperture, and also loading conductor strips on the slot aperture. Usefulness of the proposed directional couplers is verified from numerical and experimental considerations.
