Description

Radiotherapy for atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) was performed in the infant girl (age 1 year, 3 months). The primary lesion was located inside the third ventricle and has caused hydrocephalous. Complete resection by surgery was not achieved, and subsequent MRI showed meningeal dissemination. Treatment was started with 36Gy/20fr/4 weeks of whole brain/total spinal cord irradiation and 18 Gy/10fr/2 weeks of 360° rotating body irradiation to the primary tumor. To further prolong the prognosis, modified IRS-III was also combined. The patient survival rate increased more 5 years after the treatment.<br> Though, in long term unfavorable effects, the growth hormone deficiency and primaryhypothyroidism are observed, however both these effects are controlled by hormone supplement therapy.
