Abstract

The theme of this article is the high-resolution visualization of large-scale 3D scanned data. In recent years, 3D scanning technologies such as laser scanning and photogrammetry have been developing. UAV (drones) that can carry the 3D scanning equipment have been developing rapidly, too. These developments have made it possible to record 3D structures in the real world as large-scale point clouds quickly and precisely. However, high-resolution visualization of the acquired point clouds is inferior to conventional visualizations such as fluid-simulation visualization and medical visualization. In this article, we pursue the visualization of 3D scanned point clouds as a problem of visualizing noisy point-cloud big data. We report our recent research results of high-resolution visualization, where the measurement noise disappears automatically. Our method adopts our original statistical approach that suits the noisy point-cloud big data.
