Abstract

To prevent heat stroke during physical activity in children, we researched the time of sports activities and outside play in the summer. The purpose of this study was aimed at obtaining basic data for making a set of guidelines about the time of various activities during summer vacations. A questionnaire survey was distributed to children (Kanagawa, Okinawa and Taiwan), and junior baseball and soccer coaches in Kanagawa. In this survey, we investigated items such as play palatability, air conditioner habituation, and time zone of play and sports activities in the summer vacation. In the answers of children, time zone of outside play at midday (11:00 to 15:00) was the highest in Kanagawa, and the lowest in Taiwan. For activity time of sports clubs at the time zone of noon, Kanagawa was also the highest, and Taiwan was the lowest. In the answers of coaches, answers for the practice time per day were a high ratio of more than 6 hours, especially in baseball. From the above results, in regards to the activity time of sports and outside play in the summer, many of the children in Kanagawa were active during the high temperature time zone, and must be issued guidelines. These guidelines should include avoiding activities during this especially hot time period. Since the daily practice time of soccer and baseball in Kanagawa is longer, the time for activities during the summer season should be shortened.
