<p>The Cartesian grid-based CFD is very easy to generate a grid and can be easily applied to the analysis of complex geometries. These requirements are essential for CFD to become a general-purpose tool that can be used by beginners, and the Cartesian grid-based CFD is one of the most promising candidates. On the other hand, it is recognized that the Cartesian grid method still has some problems in reproducing object shapes and handling solid wall boundaries compared to CFD with boundary-fitted grids because the cell interfaces do not fit to the object surface. In this paper, we introduce the “Workshop on Cartesian Grid-based CFD” held at the Fluid Dynamics Conference / Aerospace Numerical Simulation Symposium (held at the end of June or the beginning of July every year). In this workshop, we set up benchmark problems to solve the aforementioned problems, and asked participants to bring the results to the workshop for discussion to improve Cartesian grid-based CFD. We introduce the results of the last workshop and would like to invite new participants to the workshop.</p>
