Abstract

Recently, use of carbon fiber reinforced plastics has been increased in automotive industry. However, due to the poor workability of CFRP, the combined use of aluminum alloy and CFRP is considered. The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between the strength characteristics and joint area of Al alloy and CFRP joints joined by friction lap spot welding using insert materials, which is a type of dissimilar material joining method in numerically. In order to reproduce the configuration of the joint that was actually manufactured, the configuration was measured by observe of the cross section of the joint, and a numerical analysis model was created. From the numerical results, the maximum principal stress decreased significantly as the joint diameter increased. In addition, it occurs at the PET / CFRP interface on the Al alloy end side in all joint diameter models. It is considered that the increase in the joint diameter improves the rigidity of the joint and suppresses the bending deformation near the joint, and this suppression of the bending deformation reduces the normal stress σyy in the y direction, and as a result, the maximum principal stress is reduced.
