Abstract

The purpose of this study was to observe the educational effects of two kinds of methods of demonstrating a sterilization procedure, and how educational effects were influenced by psychological factors.

An educational experiment was performed involving 60 students. The students were divided into two groups, one group watching a program on video-tape, while the other was given a live practical demonstration by a teacher.

The technical and paper tests of the sterilization procedure were performed immediately after the instruction, and at intervals of one week and one month later.

The results showed that the group receiving only the video-taped program scored much lower, while the other group achieved higher scores on the technical and paper tests. Educational knowledge was positively influenced by psychological factors such as achievement motivation and self-efficacy.
