Training for Japanese language teachers teaching overseas has been conducted by the Japan Foundation and teacher organizations in various countries, but now online training is available. Many of the Japanese language teachers teaching overseas are non-native speakers and have studied in Japan, but their specialties are Japanese language studies and Japanese culture, and they may not be familiar with Japanese language teaching methods. Therefore, this paper investigates the needs of Japanese language teachers in China, Vietnam, and Thailand for training items in Japanese language teaching methods. Although the situation varies from country to country, there is a high need for training in teaching methods, teaching materials, and course design. With the expansion of Japanese language education, new needs were also identified, suggesting the importance of conducting training in cooperation with local teachers.
