説明

In a dialogue on (R)evolutionary Economics, Tomas Sedlacek and David Graeber discuss the problems of the capitalist system. The core of their argument is that this system is inhuman, meaning that economic activity does not exist for humans, but on the contrary humans live for the economic system or market. On the fundamental basis of this, there is the ideology which states that societies should be managed by the rational market, according to which humans are numeralized by debt and money. Mainstream economics also maintains and reproduces this system according to the theory which relies on homo economicus. On critiques of the capitalist system, they basically approve of each other, but their opinions differ on what capitalism should change. Graeber insists on radical changes or rebuilding capitalism with alternative new systems. From his experiences gained through fieldwork during anthropological inquiry and various political actions as a famous anarchist activist, he believes that a society based on direct democracy and mutual aid is possible. On the other hand, Sedlacek insists on gradual changes or a reform of the current system. He focuses on the problems of the dogmas of mainstream economics and makes appeals for the importance of reforming economics such that it is based on a more human perspective.
